Pope Francis adopts silence on celibacy whenever possible

Religión Digital.  Rufo Gonzalez

I am writing this post on the feast of Saint Mary Magdalene (July 22). As I usually do, after the prayer of Lauds and the Office of Readings, I meditate on the Gospel of the day (Jn 20:1, 11-18). This year, I am using the “Commentary on the Daily Gospel 2021” by JM Castillo (The Religion of Jesus. D. de Brouwer. Bilbao 2020). In points 3 and 4, I read: “Today it is difficult for us to understand Jesus’ astonishing freedom with respect to women… He realized that a culture that does not recognize the equality, in dignity and rights of women and men, is inevitably violent, dehumanized and dehumanizing. This is the key that explains Jesus’ behavior with women. It must be said, without fear, that the Church will only have a solution, authority and credibility, the day when women are “in all things” equal to men… “Difference” is a “fact”, while “equality” is a “right”. The Church cannot sign the Declaration of Human Rights. Nor can it belong “pleno iure” to the UN… Society advances, while the Church remains stagnant. Our hope now lies in Pope Francis. How will the Church leave us when he is gone?” (Oc p. 254-255).
